Mankind

Humans...
We are the ones who take land for ourselves; forget other creatures, acquire some wealth.
We are the ones who cut down trees to make our resources and print our degrees. 
We are the ones who chase degrees for years to be crippled by debt and drowned in our tears. 
We are the ones who claim we conquer all, that must be the reason our societies fall. 
We are the ones who make tales of after death to cope with the fact that there will be nothing left. 
We are the ones too distracted by screens to notice our planet has a shortage of greens. 
We are the ones who elect politicians who hardly know things about their positions.
We are the ones who claim not to care, but when it gets rough we're tearing out hair. 
We are the ones without happiness to lend, but expect it back before  our stories end
We are the ones too focused on our rise to realize we're our own demise.
