THE MASK HAD FINALLY SLIPPED...

Remorseful and ashamed
In a world of trepidation
The importance of herself
Suffocated by obligation
Fragile and withdrawn
Frustrated at underachieving
Her constant critical peers
Contrived to stop her believing
Weakened by the fight
Drained of motivation
Her empty glazed eyes
Lacked hope and inclination
After sacrificing so much
Her reward, was a life of shame
A sacrificial pawn
In a cruel and selfish game
The love she once felt
Now courteously aloof
Though difficult to understand
She accepted, the cold hard truth
Too many waters had passed
Flooding her into submission
Her heart now accepted
It was too late for coalition
Overwhelmed with sadness
After an emotional total eclipse
She knew the day had come
The mask had finally slipped...

WOW Jason,an excellent account of the fragile emotions of a woman losing her confidence in herself , love and life .Could relate this ,as I can remember one of my friend always used to look in the mirror to ventilate her emotions as she felt so lonely, eventually ending upon antidepressants. This emotion is an excellent fuel for my pen ,unavailable in Walmart...lol.
Cheers
