Me, Bukowksi and a Bar Fight

In a foreign land the thing
I search for obsessively is Chai, proper Indian Chai
ironically it has lead me to various coffee shops

there he sat with a 'tall' of something
and a copy of The Old Man and the Sea
      fucking poser
but then I think that of anyone
reading in a coffee shop

it reminded me of Bukowski
and how he hated all Hemingway was toward the end
voicing what I felt
I was no one to say it was a lousy book
but he could, Bukowski could
and I wondered about all the books I've read
writers I admire
and I bet he would have had something scathing to say
about most if not all

Charles Bukowski--
the reason I chose a pen over my fists
he loathed- poets and poetry reading snobs
half-assed novelists
self-absorbed rants dressed as writing
the list of people who were
at the sharp end of his talented vitriol is long

Bukowski and I walked into a bar
if that ever happened
and I told him I was trying to be a writer
he would have said something I didn't like
would've been a good fight
I fight better than I write
