Memories

Memories
Have you ever had a memory, that caves,
gets up and haphazardly, daunts away?
The hand that threw the rock and first,
to have promised me it would stay?
Sad to say, I have lost, way way more,
then I can justifiably, say I have saved.
Wandering in a memorandum cemetery,
a path, laden by bread crumbs not paved.
An elusive book, full of memoirs, lurking
outside my front and back door.
peeping through closed windows, as I ask,
without recollection, what it was here for?
Repeatedly stressing, it knew all about me,
quite quick and prompt, I did reply.
“life these days, is like a book on its last page,
and my memories now, they tend to hide.”
Interconnected and coincidentally, each is joined,
as colors in a rainbow, so sharingly do.
If they are what binds us, morally to this life,
than my collection, is now well below, (just a few).

Hello Cherie,
Thanks for the response to this piece and so very sad to hear about your grandfather and grandmother and you in a nutshell just explained the same scenario my step father went through, before he died.It was sad to look into a face, that was always there in heart but the mind had left him, a long long time ago.. A daily fight, was he subjected to have fought, against his will with this thief of precious memories and how it slowly eats at and erodes, the value of a life and those precious memories of loved ones, they once knew and loved so dearly....So sad, so very sad...Appreciate the compliment but to reach the status (you, T.,Flowers,Nardine,The Bee,Shirley P.,Sparrowsong, Morris Derry, Rose Sho, Keisha, Williamj M.,Jason Brown Chris C. and many more that wasn't mentioned), have acquired, i've got to get back on my grind once again...You folks are heavy hitters and are very much admired by all....xoxo Jim
This is insightful Jim...You have a big heart and thus you write to creat awareness on things people don't really bother about...Just saw my name in the above comment...You're are way above that status Jim....Lots of love
Hello Rose,
Oh-how you humble me, my friend but the crew above, (most definitely including you) and (in no specific order), represent their poetry, quite well and i got a lot of "rust" to loose, my friend, in order to get back into, "the swing of things," working like a well oiled machine, (like yourself and the crew upstairs) and there's another, i'd like to add, to that up stairs crew, (Larry Ran), whom has a way of doing his own thing and doing it quite well...A (poet), with a (slew) of classy poems and very much admired here...(In general), a (good man) as well..(Proper respect), always to be shown, to the matriarch of his birth, i (do) commend you....To All: Stay on your game ...Appreciate ya Rose...jim
