"Mr. Bojangles"

"Mr. Bojangles"

I knew a man who if you'd ask, would gladly dance for you,
he lived in the deep south.
With no place to stay, ragged clothes and pair of torn up shoes,
Several teeth in his mouth.

Met him when, I was down/out and like he, owed some dues,
we set and spoke, for a while.
With silver hair, he seem to care, about his rhythm and blues,
and Oh!!Ā how he would smile.

He did a dance, took a chance, jumped to the sky, with a sudden move,Ā
and softly, touched down.
He slid, across the room, said his name, in a soft crackled voice,
"Mr. Bojangles, around town."

And with a laugh, so true to last, how he would kindly dance for you,
with the pleasures, that he gave.
A tip of the top hat, light twirl, and bow, as he danced the old soft shoe,
with a gestured hand, he'd wave.

I tend to drink, more than I should, now county bars, are my room,
when he dance to honky tonk bands.
and for a drink or two, he would dance for you, where no restrictions,
outweighed, any (public), demand...

A simple man, with his heart in hand, who'll gladly dance for you,
yet no place!! (has he), to call home.
He had an old dog, who was his only friend, that he named spoon,
but now he too, has (sadly) gone...

And when he up and died, oh how he cried, for the only true friend,
that he sadly once knew.
You see the law of the land, doesn't reside in our hands and in time,
I'll be gone and so will you.

As he danced away, I had wished he would stay, as his old shoes
touch ground, they made no sound.
And as he waved good bye, I heard a voice out cry, Mr bojangles,
"Mr. bojangles, I'll see you around".......

(RIP)Sammy Davis Jr./Greatest entertainer there was....Jim
