Missing Pieces

Broken promises for our native children a treaty signed decades ago
Indians lost their tribal lands and moved to a reservation with hope
Hope to give them something to look forward to, raise their family
Educate their child, clothe and feed them, give them medicine they need
No longer can they live off the lands of the past, now only missing pieces
Remain from their carved handwork of native life to survive the arrow head
Beads and leather, feathers of war, and victory, be mounted on walls in museums
Is missing its spear, its length, its sharpness, and now its piercing in a burial ground
Remains of the past be at last free spirits, but now our children be raised in white
Lands and plains of pain, not strength, not plenty, not pure, but restricted
Let us pray for our people and let them learn a new life with hope for tomorrow
May we give them a job well done and bring their face forward to the world they belong
Missing pieces of the arrow head mend and be found for the giving and the sharing
Of a land of freedom and honor today and yesterday we give grace
Let us put back together the missing pieces for our childrens sake
