Monsters

Monsters

Little eyes
Be brave
For the day is scorched
and shall end so grave
Hide your sweet mind
from the wrath of mankind
Who’s fury makes them blind to your light

Take flight little dove
You’re a victim of a world that is lacking love
And all should hang their heads in shame
For all are to blame
For your fear
Your pain

Little eyes
longing rest
Little hearts
in little chests
Little souls
put to sleep
By the power
so many seek

We’ve watched your eyes
become soft pools
Still of light
Like dust filled jewels
If you could see another day
If we could put this war away

To live
To love
To rise above
To say at last
Enoughs enough
Let’s end all this decay

But I’m so sorry little one
For there are Monsters now at play

There really are so many people around the world suffering and of course anyone with a conscience and half a heart feel for those less fortunate. But alas in my opinion the human spirit could just well be the one thing that gets us over the line. It’s a beautifully written poem touching on the innate innocence and fragility of young people. I for one am on your side Gwen, and I’m not going anywhere just yet but then again what options do we have? Are you doing OK? Do you feel you have the inner strength and energy reserves to see this human based mission through?

The human spirit is indeed a beautiful thing Greg. When exercised from the foundation of love, it shines its brightest and truest potential. But right now, it is hard to see that shine when children are being blown up. I feel I have had many signs over the years. Signs that gave me faith in humanity and it’s future. But right now, I am ashamed of our species

The world is indeed filled with monsters & sadly, it always has been, it seems that every now and then one of the really bad ones wakes up power crazed and hungry & will do anything to satisfy its craving .. Nevertheless, I believe that good shall eventually overcome .. until the next time and the next ..  A poem riddled with despair, desperation & obvious frustration .. emotions that I too share & knowing that it is the innocents that make up the main body of casualties .. but holding on I suspect and hope to hope itself .. Thanks my friend...yes hope is all we can cling to at times like this. You are right in all you say. There is always one absolute fruit cake that manages to influence a mass of people...to do things they ordinarily would not think to do even. I just hope modern times helps bring these sorts of monsters down quicker. Thanks for reading Neville and I hope all is well as can be in your world x :)

Absolute tear jerker. Relevant of course but written with the pure and bewildered hearts of the children and the innocent in the forefront of your mind. I love this Gwen. I really love it...you are extremely talented and your beautiful soul really shines out regardless of what you write about.
The war is fkn atrocious and makes me cry every day...why should one demented old man decide the fate of so many innocent people. Put him back in the nursing home with all the other demented white rich old pensioners who rule the world and put Ukrain's PM in charge of the world. That man is beyond brave and admirable. No ego, humble... everything a true leader should be. I ramble, sorry...hugs 💖💖

He has been amazing hasn’t he! So brave and like you say humble too. I have cried so many times now. I dread where this is leading too. If he keeps on going and thinks he is winning, I fear he will get more confident and power hungry. It won’t end with Ukraine. It is a truly dark time. I almost wish I could just leave the planet

thanks for stopping by my friend
Always love your words and rambles 😊

Gosh I use to wonder how he ever got to be president. But then I look at our history of Prime ministers and realise yep they can let any old Dick and Harry in charge. This planet is going steadily down the tube 😞xx

It is in the simplicity of the delivery of these words that allows the impact of your word "Monsters" to find its impact...you have used one of the coolest and most profound poetic devices here....the literalness of tall comparison...it makes for great profundity when you show the reader the nature of truth by exposing both sides literally......monsters as compared to the naivete' of the child...a most profound write dear poet sister......and truly clever wordsmithing!!......AWESOME poem.......PINNED for perfection!!......later tater!!......T xo  : )

Oh Gwen I'm so pleased I got to read this one. It's so powerfully conveyed. I think wars are so pointless and cruel and innocent people get hurt and die. It's not right. So true there are monsters. Pinned 🙏🏽💜💜💜

Gwen, yes it hits home and for all the right reasons.
The moral reasons, regardless of current events happening on our doorstep, or any time for that matter.
Wrote something of similar theme (war through a child's eyes) a narrative poem three years back on Poemhunter called, The Day The Soldiers Came.
But yours is more polished and resonates better, much much better.
No innocents win in any war and the loss of lives,  or a solitary life, is unspeakable.
Little lives that could have been.
Thanks for writing and touching moral base here Gwen.
Shaun.x.
