More Old Poetry
I was in a lot of pain ten years ago. My poems were always a reflection of that

The hammer smashes down
Onto my weak, bruised hand
Pain beating as a part of me
Not much more can I stand
The knife violently stabs
My already bleeding heart
Crushing the thread of life
That I've had from the start
The pieces often make no sense
Until the puzzle is completed
Realize we are holding the weapons
That make us feel defeated

Depression can target anyone and be relentlessly cruel and self abuse one of its tragic consequences. It can cause a catharsis within every human soul and to defeat this black dog takes a true strength of character and will.
The old adage of one day at a time springs to mind and is true in order hopefully to defeat, then if not, to subdue and lift. Small steps.
Shelley I pinned for a reread and thank you for writing from your heart and sharing what many people try to hide.
Take care, stay warm and I wish you well.
Completely agree with you Shaun, mental health is just as important as physical health. Mental pain can cause physical pain and physical pain causes mental pain. The cycle is endless but one day at a time. Step by step. It can be soothed into submission. I dont think depression ever really leaves us but with practice, patience, support and love it can lift enough to let the light in.
It was therapeutic to re read myself and post here to see the changes in black and white.
As always thank you for your time, peace and good vibes sending your way ☺
