Poem -

Mother dear

Oh mother, you would never come to meΒ
as I lay in my bed, softly weeping.
I prayed that just for once you'd come and see

a boy who in his youth, had once believed
in life, in love, in words of truth's keeping.
Oh mother, you would never come to me

and in my night time terrors, sleep would flee.
I'd lie awake, half filled with fear, leaping.
I prayed that just for once you'd come and see

this boy whom once you loved, and filled with glee
you'd hug my heart, lulling me to sleeping.
Oh mother, you would never come to me.

Now I'm a man, and live so foolishly.Β
I live within the dark, my soul seeping.
I prayed that just for once you'd come and see

and in my shame, I still call you to me.
My mother dear, my lost heart is heaving.
Oh mother you would never come to me.
I prayed that just for once you'd come and see.
