Poem -

Mr. Fletcher

Mr. Fletcher no longer works here.
He left some time ago.
Simply wasn’t here one morning,
Where he went we just don’t know.
That’s his desk, just over there
Where Miriam now sits,
At first she missed him terribly
He’d often have her in fits.
But, hey ho, I hope he’s on the up
Wherever he may be.
This used to be his coffee cup,
It got passed down to me.

They found him some time after,
He’d driven a long way,
At the spot where he’d proposed
To his sweetheart one fine day.
Daffodils were blooming,
Skylarks in the air
And there was Mr Fletcher,
Simply hanging there.
Suicide they called it,
Despite the smile upon his face
Yet it was his lonely, broken heart
That led him to this place. Β
