Mr. Mole ?

A labour of velvety moles dwell in the ground
Sows, Boars with baby pups sleep safe and sound
These groundhogs scurry through chambers whilst we sleep
No one really noticesÂ
only the sheep
They use little sharp claws to burrow to light
Rising up through the tunnels
this leaves such a plight
Earthy mounds of soil in their wake
can be the evidence of moles
They make a mess for heavens sake
But Mr Mole does’nt know this
so he hasn’t got a care
He can rise up on a perfect lawn
so all you bowlers beware
If moles are in your area
There’s not much you can do
Hope they choose a new direction
so they do not target you
They seem so harmless
whilst looking so cute
But believe you me
Mr Mole is astute
So all you avid gardener’s
you need to be aware
For Mr Mole and his relatives that inhabitat there
Risen up in your prize roses
hunting worms with their noses
They will wreck any border that you may create
Though they are quite blind
juicy worms they will find
So not caring a jot if they leave a right state?

Fabulous poem, Jill. Had the ahhh factor and the humour too. I remember seeing my first mole and being shocked at how small it was. I always imagined them being about the size of a Guinea pig not a hamster. And I thought they were all dark brown/black and this one was a beautiful silver grey colour. Since then I have come across quite a few moles that one of my cats used to catch x
