My Avalon

My Avalon

Through strands of time my spirit strays
In the mist of my Avalon,
Where once upon a time we played
And lived and loved 'til our time was gone.
But what is time to lives richly spent
And to hearts that forever bleed?
Unrequited love does not repent
It rots and grows a bitter seed.
I loved you above all men met,
I held your magic words as true,
But you gave your heart to Nimue, yet
Still I loved you.

Our vows of love were lost somewhere
In the mist of my Avalon,
Where, once upon a time, I cared
To reflect on childhood's sad songs.
There were things no child should endure,
Yet endure them I did but knew
That one day I'd find a strength so pure
And it would be because of you.
I'd witnessed things, now horror's debt,
Images and nightmares to keep;
And I was but a child and yet
I did not weep.

Through strands of time my story flies
In the mist of my Avalon,
Where my legend was born with cries
Of evil intent (of which there was none).
I was but a strong and passionate girl
Who learned to love, and read, and write;
Female in a male hungry world
Where a girl's voice was never right.
Tales have my plying the Devil's pitch,
Believe in those stories you may
For I care not if you think me the witch
Morgan Le Faye.

I wander through eternity,
Through the mist of my Avalon
Where Once Upon a Time's ill seed
Had me ever needing Merlin's song.
But what of the songs that have all been sung
And are not heard of again?
Beware magic words for spells are spun
That either heal or cause much pain.
My spirit lives where sunlight flickers
Over the many green topped hills,
And where Merlin's magic whispers
Haunt me still.

Through strands of time my story rolls
In the mist of my Avalon,
Where it changes and evolves
Until the truth has completely gone.
Legend has Guinevere as shining bright,
Lancelot her only downfall;
Like mine, her story's not quite right,
She was many times unfaithful.
But who cares what truth the stories breech?
Who cares what the tales now say?
I will ever be known as the witch,
Morgan Le Faye.

Nigel Cresswell...

Love this. I have always had sympathy for Morgan and considering that she is a Norman invention, as is our concept of Arthur, she is easier to like. Arthur, as depicted, reminds me of my smug irritating brother so sod him.
Now, if you would like a really magical but true story to play with you can find a series called Medieval Dead on line or on UKTV play. Look for an episode called Saint Bees Man.
I was born in Saint Bees and always felt the place was truly magical. In 1984 that was proved.... Mmm
Intrigued?
Great poem and almost made me tingle because on the 24th I will be casting a bronze age leaf sword at the local museum. Sword from the stone.
Seriously, look for St. Bees man, I think you'll get a buzz from it.

So glad you like it, Nigel. It's one from awhile back but I am thinking of putting all my stuff on Cosmo where it will be all together in one place.

I will definitely check out the St. Bees Man...I am indeed intrigued!

You are casting a bronze age leaf sword? For real? That is awesome! Will you post a picture of it on facebook?

Thank you so much for reading and leaving such an interesting comment x

This was a sensational read. You really captured Morgan in this. I love all the King Arthur legend. A beautiful tribute and I could actually see this being performed on a stage. It has such magic woven within its rhythm and words. Takes the reader into that era so beautifully.

Unrequited love does not repent
It rots and grows a bitter seed.
I loved you above all men met,
I held your magic words as true,
But you gave your heart to Nimue, yet
Still I loved you.

Really felt the weight of her heart as I read this. You write as if from that time and it’s just perfect.

A much enjoyed :)
You are so very talented ?

So pleased you like it! I felt I needed to make Morgan le Faye more believable. Okay, okay...so she is fictional...I know that...but I felt she has had such a bad press that I felt she needed somewhere to tell her own story ?

Thanks for reading and leaving such a supportive comment, it's really appreciated x

Hi P,
I think it's fun to try and put your own spin on legends we know so well. I wrote this a couple of years ago but I think I might try and put all of my poetry up here on Cosmo so that it is all in one place. I will do it bit by bit though as busy with other projects at the moment.  Thank you do much for reading and for leaving such lovely comments. I really appreciate your support ? x

Wow TINA!!…..I have always loved the King Arthur Myths & Legends.....I first read L'Morte 'D Arthur when I was 15 years old and have since read and seen as many films as I could get my hands and eyes on.....Putting your own spin on such a tale is the way we get Myths and Legends to this very day.....people such as yourself passing along stories to their friends and children by the fires of the past and books of today.....yours is a wonderfully creative mind.....I enjoyed this VERY much!!…...ALL STARS & PINNED!!…...Bravo my friend!!…...LOVE & ROCKETS!!…….T xo  : )

Hi Tony,  glad you like it! I wrote it a while back but I am going to try and get all my poetry together in one place... Here... Rather than bits here and there all over the place. I do like to delve into a character, sometimes, to write for them. Legends never stay still, do they? Thanks for reading and for leaving a great comment. I really do appreciate your support, my friend. Thanks again x

Fiona, you don't know how happy I am to hear that my words here have gifted you pictures in your head to enjoy. I am honoured that you found this to be the case. I love writing narrative poetry and try hard to allow the reader to "see" the pictures as they read the words. Truly honoured, my dear friend. Thank you so much for reading and for leaving your wonderful feedback x

Bless your heart ? I am both honoured and humbled by your words... This poem has now become my favourite (of the ones I have written) just because it allowed you to "see" the story played out in your mind. Thank you for telling me that... Your comment here just brought tears to my eyes. Hugs xx

Thank you so much for reading, James. I just tried to think that if Morgan le Faye (Morgana to some) was real, what would be her back story? And I came up with this. I'm glad you like it. And thanks again x

An enchanting poem centred around an enchantress and the Isle of Apples.
Her plight and sad lament brilliantly imagined, written and presented.
Your imagination and poetry originality is breathless and knows no bounds.
One of those flowing poems you don't want to end so engaging that takes a reader to other worlds.
A great poetic journey to travel.
Tina you have a gift and so generously and elegantly bestow it.
I wish you well and thank you.

This is absolutely epic .. which for the uninitiated, aint nowt like a Topic .. there are no hazelnuts on this page as you can see .. but tis filled to overflowing with mystic magick, myth and legend the likes of which have held me in awe since long before Waggon Wheels got so very small .......... and that's a long time ago, I can tell ya  🙂 x

ps On a more serious note, this is seriously good .. and all took place not that far from my very own front door ..
