My Brother

My Brother

I never met him because he died before I came,
run over by a bus for playing a stupid game,
right outside our house, one sunny summer's day,
God wanted him, divine providence, so they say.

I want him too, to tell him that I'm here,
make sure the road is clear, brush away a tear,
I know the photo, the boy with blonde white hair,
but his untimely parting, gone, was just not fair.

He's part of me, because I was born four months after,
the house was quiet, no sunshine, nothing, no laughter,
mom and dad padded around as tho' something was missing,
it was - no shrieks, no 'his world,' no smiley eyes, no kissing.

But I WAS there, still carried by mom, above and below,
if I could have spoke, I would have said: 'Please don't go.'

You sure know how to write Terry!

I'm sorry to hear about your younger brother, how tragic. I lost a brother to Leukemia when I was quite young. It makes you wonder what life would have been like, had the accident never occurred. I had goosebumps reading your poem. Thanks for sharing your poetry and your story. Life is something to survive. We all have a path, I don't think our paths are chosen, I think we just go through things that seem totally unfair. Losing[KWB1]  a loved one is always hard to survive. I bet your parents, were stricter with you and always had that fear in their hearts about being outside to play, without worrying about an accident.

Thanks for your comments Katina. My family went through a hard time but my younger brother was forever in our hearts.
Terry.
