My Gidget & Me: A poetic tribute to my canine companion

My Gidget & Me: A poetic tribute to my canine companion

Too soon your dark brown eyes will lose their spark
when death comes calling to whisk you away.
Without a doubt, your love has left its mark
upon an old man’s heart, so tired and grey.

Β
I’ll cherish every moment spent with you,
β€˜til moments are no more and time stands still.
You’ve been my dearest friend, I know it’s true,
and losing you will be a bitter pill.

Β
But hope dwells in my heart, for one fine day
we’ll be united in eternity.
To frolic in the sun, to laugh and play,
and you’ll be by my side eternally.
Β

So, here’s to us, beloved canine friend.
Until the day when we will reach the end.

Thank you, POETESSDARKLY.
I rarely write mushy poetry. But neither Gidget or myself are getting any younger.
In dog years, she's 74.
She was six month old in the photo I used.
Seems like only yesterday...
Thanks again,
~Dean

Thank you for taking the time to read my poem, Sparrowsong. I appreciate your thoughtful comments.
Rarely do I write sonnets. But in dog years, Gidget is 74.
I wanted people to know how much her friendship has meant to me over the years.
She was just six months old in the photo.
It seems like only yesterday...
Thanks very much again for reading,
~Dean
