My Lazarus Rose

hope

My Lazarus Rose

I bought a rose from the interweb.
I waited for it to arrive.
And I waited.
And I waited.
Until irritation begins to rise.
Then emails and phone calls
'til, eventually a refund.
But no rose.
A disapointment
a sigh.

Two months later I found the package.
Weather wreaked, badly damaged.
Stupidly hidden in an impossible passage
by a driver with no mind.
I opened it with a sinking heart
and then just wanted to cry.

A dead stick, grey roots so sick
I felt like I had committed a crime.

I took it down the garden as an act of faith
and planted it anyway.
With a closed eyed wish and hope.

I checked on my rose today.
It has made my spirits fly.
My Lazarus rose is not just alive.
My Lazarus rose has thrived.

The Lazarus rose will bloom next year.
As will you and I.

Thanks so much. It is a true story that has, in the last few weeks, become a metaphor so I did go down to where I planted it. I genuinely thought I had downloaded the pic as well but......Β
Been in lockdown isolation for a couple of weeks now so thank god I have a garden.Β

Thanks Angel,Β
Still trying to work out how the idiot driver managed to get it where it was. Maybe he had elastic arms or perhaps he read the "live plants treat with care" and just threw it over the fence. Seeing come back to life though, in times like these, feels like such a metaphor.Β

Drop Dead Freakin' Gorgeous NIGEL!!
An absolutely perfect delivery rhythmically...... taking the reader along a narrative path that he is hoping will end well...... and then..... indeed it does...... and it does so MOST poetically!!.,......I LOVE everything about this piece.... it is touching, creative, VERYΒ well conceived & delivered...... but most of all...... it has a kind of fairy tale uniqueness to it that shines!!...... An absolute pleasure my friend!!.........ALL STARS & PINNED!!........smokin' grooves brother!!........LOVE & ROCKETS!!.........T xo.Β  : )

Totally true story Tony. But suddenly with my overpopulated country in lockdown and everyone feeling scared it felt like quite an important metaphor.Β
Thanks again my friendΒ
