My Novice First Flight

~~The door I did open at the turn of my key
My fathers huge stance waiting to greet me

'And what time do you call this'
'It's not late' I matched his hiss

'You are drunk and been smoking and look like a tart'
What was that thumping?... just my fearful heart

'You have had your last chance. Now go to your room'
I stumbled the stairs too drunk to care of impending doom

'Pack your things, you are out tomorrow'
I did not think it so much of a sorrow

I will now be free to do as I please
My pleasure will resound with so much more ease

The dawn gave a cold reality surge
I felt sick from the booze. I started to urge

I packed my stuff but knew he would stop me
I stood in the hall, with bag in hand, a pitiful sight to see

He opened the door and nothing was said
I walked to my future and lowered my head

Siblings must always fly the nest
And parents...they really do know what's best

That morning just changed my life
I messed up and bumbled along in strife
