Poem -

My Place

It was the only place I could get away,
The only place I could escape from the terrible things of the outside world.
It was a place where I could be alone, not just feel alone.
It was a place for darkness, and a time to calm down.
It was a place of reflection.
It was a place I went to to hide from any distractions or interferences.
It was a place I was in more often than my own bedroom,
A place I saw more often than my own family.
It was a place I was punished for doing something I know is bad.
It was a place I could reward myself for working and fighting up to my breaking point.
It was a place I could hide.
It was a place I could prevent another punishment from happening.
It was a place I could go to let the bruises heal.
It was a place I could cry the pain away from the welts on my face.
It was a place I could forget the sound of the belt striking me or my mother.
It was a place I could decide.
It was a place I could choose what to do next.
It was a place I went when I didn't feel loved,
A place I went often.

It was a place I felt comfort from the hug of silent darkness.
It was a place I wanted to remember forever.

It was the place I wanted to see last.
It was the place where I didn't go in alone for the last time.
It was the place I brought the memories of a lifetime.
It was the place I chose to only feel my memories without seeing through darkness.
It was the place I went to say my last goodbyes.
It was the place where I saw the dark, until I fell upon the light.
It was the place where everything went cold, and I fell into nothingness.
