My Prayer

My Prayer

When the stars
went out at night
and the moon
no longer
shined bright.

I whispered a prayer
a plea of despair.

The heavens closed
in darkness
I was lost, exposed
wandering aimlessly
searching ceaselessly.

Whispering my prayer
into nowhere.

Searching for you
within the haze
of the morning dew
my soul bereft of all
my downfall.

Whispering my prayer
to be heard somewhere.

Alone with emptiness
heart but an empty husk
destined for loneliness
lost in the barren dusk.

I whispered my prayer
for my lost love so fair.
