NEEDFUL THINGS

Those needful things 
Things you can't do without
Always wanting, never having enough
That's what needful things are all about
Wanting what the heart desires
Living way beyond your means
Wanting steak and lobster
When you can only afford beans
Wanting what you can't have
Always feeling deprived
Knowing how it feels to be poor
Knowing how you once survived
But there is always something
Something to catch your eye
I tried hard to fill the emptiness
But it will not satisfy
You keep seeking, longing
Searching for something new
Driven in your heart to have it
What else can one possibly do
Let me have just one more thing
I'll control my spending urge
Oh, but I didn't see that...
I simply have to splurge
You thought you could look away
That you could let it go
But needful things took hold one day
And you forgot how to say; No!
