New Dawn

I sit alone
At my summertime spot
Nestled deep in the comfort of my
far off thoughts
Contemplating, what has come to pass
I'm lost for a moment, in a
series of silent films, replaying themselves
of a time not long ago
I watch, fascinated, the ghosts
of all I once knew, come dancing
crashing and tumbling in
with the dark and reeling waves
Goosebumps on my skin
from a breeze, laden with
whispers of late night laughter
achingly familiar, ring in my ears
I smile, just a little
in remembrance, in regret
to all I have lost
The sun, it rises
upon the nostalgia of my soul
A brilliant stain against my swimming vision
evaporates the wraiths of yesterday
I shed my skin in the sand
In that moment, I'm free
I sigh farewell, to the old
and the positively used.
