The Nightmare

The Nightmare

I hear a noise
It taps and taps
First once then twice
It taps and taps
Then finally thrice
It taps and taps
My mind falls silent.

I see in a mirror
A monster with claws
And a huge gaping maw
And I try to run but
My legs start to fail
As I let out a wail
And flash!

I awake with a start
And feel the beat
Of my heart
As my despair
And my pain
Begin to wane
I am alive again

I am back
To reality
My life no longer
The dream
But I wonder what
Does my dream
Say about me?
