Nine Lives

Nine Lives

I jumped from the sixth floor but landed on grass,
no big deal, I still had eight lives left to pass,
I crossed the road, asked a chicken why he did too,
he said: 'Do you know that a car just missed me and you.

The boys tried to scoop me up, but I bit one on the bum,
swung me by the tail, left my whiskers feeling numb,
I'm out of clutches, although wonder if my chances are less,
someone tried to call me to arms but made me second-guess.

Trapped my paw in a level-crossing, released in time,
driver grinned going by, I said: 'You're no friend of mine,'
I got a big hiss from a local miss, didn't want anyway,
all cats are grey in the dark, this one pink so they say.

Sleeping in the bin, scrambled out at the last moment,
one lucky life left, I'll be careful wherever you went.
