Not human

Not human

Like a shadow you were always there
Tirelessly chasing
Touching, merely grazing
At the ends of my hair

But I catch you in the corner of my eye
When traffic whisks me by
When glass catches light
When water breaks face
When I look in the mirror at night
Something not human

But one of these days
I’ll strip you off of secrecy
See you naked as you are
With your fangs and indecency
With nowhere to run

But you grew bigger and bigger
Back hunching, mouth drooling
Hissing always, “pull the trigger”
Your spit pooling
Fingers not as much brushing
More strangling
Nor trailing me, but crushing
Until my feet were dangling
