Notwithstanding

There are some articulations that are easier to swallow,

There are others that appear to me as mean, reverse, or hollow.

One that springs to mind, a word that’s not at all commanding

is when someone interjects by saying simply, notwithstanding.

It’s obvious they don’t agree with everything I say

when they use the word against me in a rude and spiteful way.

It conjures up an image of untruth or disagreement

when all I’m trying to do is prove a point of which I’m vehement

Its mere intrusive utterance shifts my train of thought

to one of doubt and randomness to search for more support.

My argument is waning as my mind races to find

another fact or circumstance since the former’s been declined.

I find although I’m confident that words can cause a stutter

making light perhaps of Ā previous attempts that I have uttered.

So I have to learn acceptance, growth, be proactive and expanding

When others don’t agree with me and utter ā€˜notwithstanding’.
