Now I Can See You

Now I Can See You

I'd been made blind for many of my adult years,
you don't know what it's like, the pain, the fears,
I gritted my teeth, lived life with a steady voice,
carried on with my best because I had no choice.

One day they said that I could have an operation,
no guarantees, it was just to be only my decision;
the day came, I was so excited and very scared,
but you were with me and I knew that you cared.

It was done, then they removed all my bandages,
I was still 'dark' and nothing happened for ages,
then there was mist and colour and your face,
the tears would not stop, my pulse quick apace.

A miracle had happened as I reached to touch you,
I could see that the sky was just a beautiful blue.
