Poem -

OH THAT I WERE

OH THAT I WERE

Oh that I were as in times past
When family and friends were near
In the days of God's favor
When I had no reason to fear
When by His light, I walked in darkness
The Lord watching over me
Before I walked in troubles and sorrows
I walked happy and carefree
Oh for the days that I long for
For those days that can no longer be
Oh that I were in those happier times
When God's favor shined upon me
As it was, as I remembered
Times when nothing seemed wrong
Oh that I were as in times past
When my heart had carried a song
But I must not look behind me
I must keep pressing on
I must let go of yesterdays
Let go of the past that is gone
Oh that I were as in times past
But I must not wish my life away
I have a future and I have a hope
But it must be lived for today
