Old Faded Photograph

Old Faded Photograph

Glimpses of yesterday
scattered among the pages of old newspapers
yellowed by decades of endless waiting
in forgotten drawers.

Lost memories
of a life wasted in a worn-torn world,
pages filled with old news that once were new,
vivid images of frightful nightmares,
scrats of life and death hidden in nameless faces,
fearful eyes peering into the night,
lost souls drifting between fear and despair.

Among these wrinkled pages of the past,
rests an old faded photograph,
an ugly haze had washed out the colours
although the memories hadn't gone,
forgotten memories from another life.

Searching for answers
hidden in torn photographs and broken hearts,
I finally faced the truth
the moment I saw myself,
born in another body, in another life,
in a brief instant suspended in time,
forever imprisoned in an old faded photograph.

Luis Welcome to Cosmo, this is a sumptuous piece of poetry. So many people have been forgotten, yet faced a life that tells such a heroic and traumatic story. You captured the magnitude of the past sacrifices perfectly. Then you took the reader into the idea of rebirth. Ending this fabulous write on an eerie, yet spiritual cliffhanger. Thoroughly enjoyed

This is a beautiful write...and I can see the possibility for two meanings in this. Sometimes the people we were bear no resemlence to the people we are now. x

Wow it's a beautiful piece to read. Vintage!! With a supernatural twist about the war and heroes. Then ending with the reincarnation into another life and the haunting realisation that they remembered it all. Absolutely loved it.

No one ever remembers their past lives but we all have it. Who knows what or who we were in previous lives. Coming from a hindu culture we do believe rebirth happens after death...unless you are the lucky ones that has fulfilled their spiritual journey and becomes free from ever taking birth again...just bliss with the supreme being.

Hello Pratibha. Thank you very much for your precious comment as well as your interpretation which is simply perfect.  Yes, I believe in previous lives and reincarnation. My poem is based on real facts. Signs of a past life have been with me since I was a child.  I believe I was a RAF pilot based in Biggin Hill who fought in BoB and was shot down over the Channel in 1940.

Being Me

An excellent poem, Victor Tango, and I very much enjoyed reading it. I recognised this as a previous life and love how you have got poetry from it. Fabulous work, thank you for sharing x
