Old wives tales

Old wives tales

You'll melt your marrow if you sit close to the fire, you'll catch your death going out with wet hair
These are the things  my nan warned me about but I really didn't care
She told me I'd shrink if I played out in the rain and I'd grow if I played in the sun
That'll be why I am still very short as I found playing out in the rain much more fun
She said my hair would go curly if I ate all my crusts, I didn't want curly hair anyway
By eating carrots I'd be able to see in the dark not much use when you need to see in the day
Spinach would give me muscles like Popeye, was never too sure that's a look that I wanted
At only Four foot six tall and a female with huge biceps I'm sure I would have been taunted
If I'd have listened I would have now been a curly haired giant that could see in the dark
With rippling muscles and a spine made of iron, I guess I'd have made quite a mark

Being Me

Love it!  Your readers cannot help but smile at this. What wonderful things those archaic tales are! I was always told I would get square eyes if I watched too much tv and that if I pulled a face it would stay that way when the wind changed. And, hands up, I am guilty of having said such things to my own children when they were younger. This is a lovely, fun poem. Thanks for sharing x
