Planet Earth

My ship pulled out of hyperspeed,
As it approached the blue planet,
The sensors started booting up,
And then proceeded to scan it.

Awoken from my cryo sleep,
I've had that sleep before,
And just like last time, cryo sickness,
I spewed onto the floor.

I got up and went to the galley,
To grab a coffee cup,
The ship asked me how i was doing,
My short reply was “I'm up”.

I shuffled my way to the cockpit,
To check on the sensor sweep,
And plopped myself in the Captain’s chair,
Rubbing my eyes still half asleep.

The year now was 2100,
It took a while to get here,
I heard all the stories of the Earth,
And it's just as bad as i feared.

Sensors say there are no animals,
Gracing savannahs in Africa’s land,
The poachers went to war on everything,
And things got out of hand.

The blue planet is now green with waste,
Dumping all their waste into the sea,
You wouldn't dare go swimming in it,
That place was not for me.

The cities turned to rubbish dumps,
And the poor over ran the rich,
Governments could no longer be trusted,
The place had turned to shit.

This is a reconnaissance mission,
To see what happened, the toll,
It seems they didn't read the warning signs,
And let things spin out of control.

There is no use moving to another planet,
If you can't look after the one we've got,
We will just repeat all the same mistakes,
Whether you like that fact or not.
