Poem dedicated to a family member who was shot to death by her husband
There you lay
still as stone
no one was there to hear your last, anguished moan
you never saw it coming
you'd never guess he was busy hunting
hunting... you
you were a liability
a worn out car
he wanted a brand new start
divorce was out of the question
annulment was not even worth a mention
clearly, in his mind
.... you had to go
gun cocked and ready
he made the choice
one shot
is all it took
he didn't care
if it meant damaging the nook
he looked at you
his eyes were steel
cold as ice and evil as an eel
he raised the gun
your last feeling
was the heat of the sun
bang.
one bullet
one hit
and there your bod slumped into its lifeless sleep
he stood over you and bothered not to weep
calmly he holstered the weapon
called for your family
sat in the lounge
next to the one
whom he killed for
caressing her cheek
while your wife
lay dead at the door.
