Poetry..Not Popularity

I’m kinda disappointed ,which frankly is a shame,
but from my own experience I’m not sure who’s to blame
I joined a few more poetry sites to hope to write some inks,
that other poets reading, might then tell me what they think.
Of course it isn’t possible to read each single one
but when you do, you let the writer know how they have done.
But on some other well known sites what happens makes me sad,
‘cause clearly other poets are not interested a tad
in how good, bad or otherwise a poem might well be,
they say quite bluntly ‘there’s my comment now you must read me’
They only ever comment for a vote to increase their status,
they haven’t read a single word and neither love nor hate us
Their comments they will copy and paste and post them on the site
and hope that no one realises their plan has come to light.
So if a comment I’ve received requires a ‘tit for tat’
I’ll never read that poem and quite honestly ‘that’s that!
The reason I love Cosmo is very clear to me
We have what I regard as, a great community.
Some guys are able to read loads and I wish I could too
But sometimes there just no time left after all I have to do,
but be assured when comments come ,they all come from the heart .
I would be oh so sad to see this ‘blackmail ‘tactic start
to infiltrate our lovely site, so please new poets take heed
don’t do this’ tit for tat ‘thing just write stuff we want to read!

I know just what you mean as I have had this happen on other sites...'I will comment and give you a good rating if you read my poem' I get quite annoyed because the poems they want me to rate often are just appalling and very often translated from their mother tongue into English which quite often renders then totally incomprehensible..so I dont feel I would want to comment honestly ..as I'd rather say nothing than be hurtful.. Enjoyed your rant and it certainly resonated with me! xx

Thanks so much Lodi! x
Hello Stevie C...
The time I have I don't waste it on anything that I should avoid anyway...
I do try to read as many as I can...
But, I can't read them all...
There are some that's repetitious and tell all...
I get it...
I got it...
I'm good...
I don't have that much time to read about the same things...
Maybe, when I have maid service and a personal assistant that will free up some time for me...
☺
But, I still wouldn't read the same stories again...
Great write!
Thank you for sharing...
Hugs...
sparrowsong
I understand exactly what you say Sparrowsong! as when time is precious you have to use it wisely- fortunately I really think Cosmofunnel is an excellent site and the quality of writing is generally very good- Some other sites I have been on, have a lot of poems that are published ,not in their native language,. but translated into English and from my perspective the translations do nothing positive for the poetry..in fact it sometimes reduces them to incomprehensible babble..which is a shame as in their mother tongue I am sure they would read entirely differently..so generally if I see something I suspect is a Google translation I do avoid them. Also like you, if the subject matter becomes too repetitious then again it doesn't draw me in too much. Thanks so much for reading and commenting and I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Big hugs right back at you !
