Rapt Reflections

Rapt Reflections

Who are you, sir, who haunts me so; do I know you at all?
Your face is so familiar, friend, I simply can't recall.
I understand time goes by fast β€” old man, could you be me?
The wrinkled skin leaves me aghast, I cannot help but see.

Β .......
Β
Time waits for no one, I’ve been told, for all are growing old.
But when our time on earth is done, the stories that we’ve told
leave subtle clues, words to peruse, expanding thoughts we choose.
As vibrant, amber, crimson hues soon overtake the blues.

.......
Β
Here upon this placid lake reflecting like a mirror,
a stranger’s face stares back at me, the image growing clearer.
It’s so serene, my lakefront scene shows wrinkles in a face
instilled with peace, a quiet ease, and God’s amazing grace.
Β
Β .......
Β
Just as the twilight turns to night, I too turn towards the dark.
Night creatures sing, song birds take wing β€” the fire loses spark.
But deep inside there dwells a soul; one younger than a child.
For it’s the heart that keeps us whole, and spirits running wild.

I just write wherever the winds of creativity take me, Nigel.
But you'll rarely ever catch me writing romance.
Thanks so much for reading.

I'm so sorry to say......not everyone will be able to truly ingest the unbelievable intensity of this write PROFESSOR!......especially young people.....that's not to say there are no representative youthful souls.....but what you've created here is a symphony for the truly experienced soul.......a mirror into comprehending the poetic nature of passing time......and without the blessing of retrospect ~  the beauty will be lost!.....for those who can honestly say "I get it!"......this is a gift that reflects the truth and beauty of growing old!!.....friggin' BRILLIANT poetry brother!!.......PINNED for obvious reasons!!......T xo ???✴❀❀❀✴???✴?

Thanks, Tony.
I'm sure you're right.
It's one of those "been there, done that" sort of poems.
This one has been pecking away at my brain since my dad's passing.
Time goes by so quickly, doesn't it?
As always thank you for your insight and stellar comments, bro.
I'm truly very grateful for them.
Peace...

No worries, Syd. I'm not very good at commenting myself.
I just appreciate you taking the time to read and tell me what you thought about the poem. That's good enough for me.
Take care, my friend.
With gratitude,

My Dear Dean,

The first time that I met myself
In reflections from my Soul
At last I was completed
I finally was whole

Peace and Love,
