Red Hawk Hunter of Winter

Red Hawk Hunter of Winter

Bold you perch upon the fence post your head so erect and you see through white winters

Red head and tail with the white satin breast so masterful in your amber glazed eyes

You hunt with your mind and site follow our native lands in snow covered tree tops

You appear here and there you blend with the trees and you lurk over and watch

Spread your wings my brother bird of winter follow me and we hunt together

My feet are heavy but no burden for I have you guiding me to the next catch

Whte snow and white fox come near while the rabbit is yours the deer be mine

These Dakota hills are in bloom for the hunt of your red feathers and the powerful

Claws you slither the throats of the beast and feast from the nights dawn on a cold

Bitter night we share the time with all the mighty hunt be with me my friend great hawk
