REFLECTIONS

REFLECTIONS

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, in my life I've loved you all,
but didn't learn the lesson that pride comes before a fall;
we looked but someone else was looking back at me,
why did I need to face all this unnecessary mystery.

I think of my old house in winter such a long time gone,
pressed some of the switches but the light didn't come on;
we huddled around the old coal fire giving eerie light,
imprisoned in red and orange giving a darker shade of white.

Mother looks down on us from an old faded photograph,
her admonishments strike home, never did anything by half;
we see the pictures in the bright coal fire, wizards flyinng,
take ourselves off to distant lands without even trying.

It's time,, the walrus said, reflect and think of many things,
why you fell to Earth, knowing you couldn't fly without wings.
