Requited

We tried to meet on a grey, rain-soaked beach,
Doing our best to avoid the stares and sneers of others,
Not knowing if or why there even would be any,
Innocent, young, facing emotional terrain with no training.

There was nothing romantic about it,
More a primal need to explore, understand,
The ice-cold wind held no quarter, no cause or affect,
Save for a coat to be used for a temporary gift.

The tour had moved on, time was at a minimum before recapture but,
Any amount was enough, 2 seconds, 2 minutes,2 hours, who cared,
As long as the message could be passed.
You're liked, possibly loved.

How many times have you kissed and died to be reborn ?
I only hope it happens once,
To take that loss again when the rain has stopped and the moment passed,
Would leave too large of a hole to ever fill.
