Rescue 1+1

Rescue 1+1

As he opened the door,
the cries reached his ear,
from many lost souls
full of loneliness and fear.
Despite his instructions
he was led to a cage
with a 2-year-old canine…
well over requested age.
The dog wiggled his body
but made not a sound,
pleading only with his eyes,
lost, and now found.
A connection was made
but he denied it, and hence
was led to the puppies...
more cries and chain fence.
Drawn by a force
to the original room
he return to the Golden...
close to his doom.
He could have come back,
another dog, another day;
but being adopted himself
he couldn’t walk away.
The paperwork was signed,
the 2-week wait had begun…
then he picked up Ozzie
and the rescue was done.

Good for you!! Glad we share a love for animals. I wrote this poem years ago for an ex-boyfriend who was adopted and adopted Ozzy. Great dog! Word spreads quickly among the wild animals that our household will feed them. :-) Question for you: do you know if a poet is limited to one nominee per month? Just curious. :-) I greatly appreciate all of your feedback!  It's fun being a part of this group.
