Restless in Static

Wonder and wander.
Please hitch my mind with a leash.
Thoughts as travellers, drifters, roamers, ramblers, gypsies.
Racing like horses on a carousel track.
Crowds cheers capture my ears.
As they all place their bets.
I lie restless in static.

And they're off!
Exclaims the announcer as the gun fires it's shot.
Gallops crash like thunder in my skull stadium.
It looks close, neck and neck.
Insomnia has taken the lead.
A sneaky horse on his tail.
His name, Anxiety.
Depression takes third.
Fourth is a horse who's called Pain.
Fear is in fifth.
Those top five break away.
Eight Hours Of Sleep.
Is in very last place.
There are no checkered flags.
Or finish lines.
No end to this race.

Merry-go-round thoughts.
Not so merry without breaks.
Like being completely exhausted.
While being completely wide awake.
One moment so happy you could feel the vibrations of love.
And just as fast you find yourself isolated and afraid.
Afraid to step out into the world.
Heart beats at a faster pace.
Mental illness is like being stuck in a gravitational pull with no escape.
Slowly drifting towards a black hole like water down a drain.
Just go on this way because there is a comfort in familiar pain.
So I'll lie restless in static.
