Running Free

Running Free

Woven thoughts, beaded in my brain, handmade pottery, of earths burnt umber clay

Changing colors, blue topaz, red velvet, a yellow lemon sunset, lime green waterfalls, quenching the silver lined rocks, underneath the mountain tops

Running free, in the fields of Mexico's legend of beauty, where the doe leaps, while mating, there, she will lay, bedding

My childhood, barefoot, my toes, touching the cool of the naked grass, laughing, in the valleys

My fathers blistered hands, his face, shadowed by the rim of his western straw hat, as his sweat, plows the rugged ground

Wild horses, spirited, chase the whistle of the wind, through the mountains path, a ghost phantom of the past

Floral accents, the gardens filled with my mothers touch, as she grew azaleas, pink, red, salmon, yellow, golden rod, of blooms

Over the fire pit, a stone slab, flaming the pork of a wild boar, corn shell tortillas, built up higher over fire

While our mouths watered, the sizzling sounds, hot peppers popped, and garlic snapped, dripping juices, gave hungry desire

My grandmothers weaving's, of wool sheered from sheep, dyed with wild berries, of plum, and purple, lay across my feet, my feathered pillow bed, with a case embroidered, her working hands so hard

Riding bareback, on my grandfathers appaloosa, chasing road runners, as the dust rolls, I try to beat the tumbleweed, of his speed

As I paint this picture, on a canvas board, in my mind, an armadillo, an elephant eared cactus flower, the Iguana, bathing in the sun rays

I know my life has been strong, and whole, where I take pride in my next steps, knowing the writings on the wall

My future, reminding me of running free, where I find love, to keep, always within, my native heart,  it beats
