Scented Stars

Just as scented stars
turn cold and loose their fragrance;
I will one day walk away
like mist evaporates across
the sea to kiss the clouds.
All I've hidden deep in dreams
and offered to you
has been forsaken.
My skies have cried long in vain; and
my ocean which begged to reach you
falls short of your shore.
I lavished you in love
In sonnets
that were cast to the wind.
But, the sands of time remember
they never forget
and carve silence in the rocks.
The butterflies you once
released inside of me
now rise to fly alone.
They dance in the abyss
you graciously left behind
with delicate wings of steel.
