Sentenced To Life
They say
By 21 we're dead, incarcerated, or trailed by a criminal record
And for her
Pregnant, abandoned or stranded empty handed
Some believe they abolished slavery
To institute âLaw and Orderâ
In order to slant the lawÂ
to keep slaves in order
Jim Crow grandfathered clauses
That paused civil rights
Like âseparate but equalâ
With Whites Only signsÂ
Showing the signs of the age
So follow the signsÂ
And line up from color to age
Assemble in the back of the bus
To wither your soul..
Is prison sole aim
To keep blacks in bondages, after the whips and the chains?
Stripped and lame
From padded charges
Dividing us from our sons and fathers
Mothers and daughters
Left to rely on the system
But what's the end game?
Using the same plan, screaming for CHANGE,
Insane
To think we elected him!
While they televised our genocide
To entice our suicide
So what remains?
A culture almost damaged
Still we manage to withstand
The political stereotype
Like, "vote this if"
And if not, "you're a sellout"Â
There's no doubtÂ
We as a people are under the knife
So how do we continue to make things worse
From both sides of the stance
