Silence may be golden but...

Silence may be golden but...

Silence may be golden
But voice brings platinum to
The undying conversation
Between the very two
---
Who say for saying’s sake
Who speak before shut out
Who want to wear their wisdom, bear
And share it with us all.
---
But ‘no’, says the protest movement
That abides by only one
A voice they vet, censor, edit
Before light of day is seen
---
And lo, behold the light is dim
When allowed to share the day
Speak up, m’lad, shout, be glad
Say what you came to say
---
All others are derided
Stay in your cage and toss
Away your lamp, go back to camp
I won’t feel any loss.
---
Social independence
Will feel the loss that day
His face saddened, angered, maddened –
A mat placed beneath to lay.
---
Had he mistook the notion
That welcomed everyone?
Did he mistake devotion
For the coming of the sun?
---
Was it dark cloud that came to stay
Releasing tears in droves?
The thunder clapped
The white flag flapped
Our chance for openness bemoaned.
---
He lay upon the mat that night
Doing nothing was his fear
Get up and chant – don’t say we can’t
Wipe away those sullen tears.
---

Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little.
