The lantern was flickering
In the chilly Arthurian night
Sincerely yours
He had left her
With ought but this?
Trembling the royal hands 
Bejeweled and so lovely
Once worshipped by Kings
Once held for ransom
Yet she lived?
How could her heart go on beating?
How could the flame keep on burning

In mourning her King 
First knight he was and shall ever be
First knight to Arthur's quest
First passion to her burning lips 
To the unresolved yearning in her breast
Why now would his nobel sword be

What good did his chivalry do now

Tears sweet with lavender ran
