Poem -

Sitting, thinking, waiting

Sitting, thinking, waiting

Sitting, thinking, waiting
For life to start again
When had it stopped?
I was unaware.

Sitting, thinking, dreaming
To be like I was back then
Why had she gone?
I had no idea.

Sitting, thinking, hoping
She’d want me back
I’d say “amen”
The silence of my days
Was deafening.

Sitting, thinking, wanting
For my heart to beat again
It stopped years before –
To seclusion I’d been sent.

Sitting, thinking, waiting
To hold what I had lost
I searched everywhere –
But hope would sink.

Sitting, thinking, praying
But He was of little use
Why I’d bothered Him
I could not think.

Sitting, dreaming, taking back
What had been taken from –
I penned a note
And left it in the drawer.

The sun began attending
But the air was icy cold
My arm around her shoulder –
Like before.

As the sun’s warmth drew nearer
I handed her the note
It read; “I want to share you –
To share you with myself.”

My arm around her shoulder
My hand over her thigh
As supple as remembrances
Had known.

My eyes looked into hers
They always told the truth
They read; "Dream sweet dreams –
In dreams my love is known."
