Sky-less

Sky-less

There's a tiny little bird that sits in my soul
And it's dark and it's damp deep down in that hole.
But, still she preens her feathers and so sweetly sings
Of the outside world and what that may bring.
If she were to open her wings and take to the sky
Without a second look back or even a bye.
She would taste the ocean and fly round the moon
She would rest on a star and watch pink roses bloom.
Alas, she remains steadfast and true in her ways
As she swings on her perch and stubbornly stays.
And you may ask why she'd not prefer to sit in a tree?
Because you see, I am her and she too, is me.
