Downward trend

What’s happening to society,
How much further down can we go.
Morality’s flown out the window,
People no longer have inhibitions 
Don’t seem to care what’s on show.

Life has little value,
What happened to brotherly love.
When some take the life of others,
Without a second thought.
I’m sure that’s not the way we raised them,
That’s not what they have been-taught.

Where has self respect gone,
Does it exist anymore,
Do we not care what others think of us,
If we sink any lower,
We’ll find our standards on the floor.

That’s the way it’s heading,
When lust and greed go before our pride.
Fear and trepidation then takes hold of us,
Leaving us so exposed,
With nowhere left too hide.

The natural world is disappearing 
Before our very eyes
As we pollute the land and oceans,
That we rely on to survive.
Not willing to change our behaviour,
Soon it will be too late, 
before we realise.

Society needs to wake up
start reversing this downward trend,
Try to build a better future,
Before it brings about our end.
