Smile

You see the smile on my face
Seemingly living my life with grace 
But you don't see the what hides below 
A cover i surely will not blow 

You see I have perfected the act
You do not see the things I lack 
Of only you could see
What lays inside of me 

I feel the lump within my throat 
It never goes away 
I feel the ache inside my chest 
It's with me even at my best 

The tears spring to my eyes at night 
But you don't understand this fight 
For all I let you see 
Is who you want me to be 

You do not see my hands that shake 
You do not see how my heart breaks 
The smile that doesn't reach my eyes 
But still it holds back all the lies 

So do not say you understand 
Life hasn't dealt you this cruel hand
