Smoke Rings

Smoke Rings

Dust gathers upon the closed book before me, the worn out grey cover hides no secrets, but just blank and torn pages inside.

Tears well and drop, sublime but empty too, for they’ve come from a soul blackened by rejection, and its beauty dulled by pain.

One memory remains...your smile, which set my heart ablaze, sealing my fate; I burnt to ash, that you rolled and smoked to get high.

You thought you could erase me, as smoke rings rise, but I am now the sky, my clouds heavy and dark, waiting to softly fall as rain.

I float downstream to fill your cup and quench your thirst, where I drown your heart, soak into your bones, and flow through your veins.
