Snowy Woods

Snowy woods filled with white
winter’s sugar still falling
no sounds of scurrying squirrels
the rustle of bracken replaced
by the howling of hungry winds.

Snowy woods where gray wolves wander
silent as snakes over sun-warmed stones
while the caribou trample through
the sparkling snow,
forging a path for the hungry fox.

Snowy woods that invite me in
to take a walk beneath the pines
warmed by the sight of
the gray wolf’s
golden gaze.
