Someone To Remember

Someone To Remember

Am I someone to remember?
Would you call me a friend?
What would you say about me,
If my life were to suddenly end?

Was I nice to you?
Did I make you smile?
Did you ever really like me?
Even if it was for a short while.

What kind of person was I?
Did I cause you any pain?
Did I betray your trust,
For my own selfish gain?

Would you say you loved me?
Would you say I broke your heart?
Would you say you'd think about me,
Every second we were apart?

Do you hate me?
Will you be glad when I'm gone?
Have you already forgotten me?
Have you already moved on?

Am I someone to remember?
Will I be thought of often?
Will anyone be at my funeral?
Will anyone cry at my coffin?

Who will give my eulogy?
Who will send me flowers?
Who will mourn for me,
Year after year and hour upon hour?

Will someone scatter my ashes?
Will someone keep me in an urn?
From the earth I came,
And to the earth I wish to return.

Will I be honored?
Will my memory be preserved?
Will candles be lit for me?
Will my anniversary be observed?

Will anyone miss me?
Will anyone remember my name?
Will I become a smoldering ember?
Or will I always be a burning flame?

Am I someone to remember?
Will I be forgotten along the way?
How will tomorrow be without me?
Or is tomorrow just another day?

Valerie Beasley...

You've asked the questions many have asked at the juncture in life where some can feel their own absence before they depart this earthly plain.  There are a few people that I would most certainly wonder what they would reply to the questions you have proffered.  Excellent write!!!
