Spare Change

Spare Change

The night sky like a wishing well
Full of bright twinkling coins.
Where years of wishes from children
And desperate souls join.
Too often amongst the pulchritude,
Eyes witness a falling star.
Perhaps a last-gasp hopeful
Tossed their wish a little too hard.
A hunger to become different,
Something luminous and new.
Weighed down by gravity,
And only pipe dreams to flow through.
